iOS 12: What’s New with Notifications

With iOS 12 finally upon us, there are many things to look forward to including Memoji, parental control, and some new apps. However, in this new iOS update, notifications in iOS 12 gets a major overhaul.

Apple has finally done something to clean up messy notifications that appears on the lock screen. And so, in today’s post, we are going go through all new features added to the iOS Notifications in the new iOS 12. Let’s check them out.

Grouped notifications

Grouped notifications is a feature that makes notifications coming from a specific app to group or stack together. This makes it easier to see what’s important at a glance instead of scrolling down a long list.

To see the group notifications you can tap on the first notification to expand and view all notifications from the same app, or ‘Show less’ to close them.

Upon installing iOS 12, all notifications, by default, will be grouped according to their respective app, however, if you want notifications of any app to be ungrouped, here’s what you need to do:

  1. Go to Settings and then Notifications.
  2. Tap on an app.
  3. Tap Notification Grouping and select Off.

Altering notification behaviors of each app under the Settings menu can be hectic especially if you have a lot of apps installed. But the good news is, you can alter them on the go as you received them on Lock Screen, Notification Center, or when they pop up as Banner. Here’s how to to it:

  • Swipe right on the notification.
  • Select Manage.
  • Choose either Deliver Quietly, or Turn Off.

The former option will virtually keep you undistracted by not playing an alert, or pop up as banner and all the notifications will be kept inside the Notification Center. The latter option will turn off the notifications entirely.

Quick message reply

Quick message reply is another feature added to the notifications in the new iOS 12. You can now reply messages on the lock screen quickly by touching and holding the message’s notification. Yet another much-needed feature wouldn’t you agree?
