The Art of Website Design
The Art of Website Design
Are you thinking of building your own website? There are many people who make the mistake of trying to build a website without any sort of plan or direction. Even worse, some people actually publish websites that started that way. If you look around long enough you will see plenty of these sites, though many of them seem to be left-overs from the 1990's. That said, you will need to decide what sort of website you are creating before you break out the web design software.
If you are going to design a business website, then you need to decide where you are going to place your products on the page. You will need to decide what configuration to place them in, and how the customers are going to get to the products. In addition to that however, you will need to decide what tools you are going to use for your web design.
There are a few different web design tools out there ranging from notepad to Dreamweaver. The one you choose will depend on your level of skill, as well as the end result you are trying to achieve. For example, Dreamweaver allows for more flexibility in creating flash components within your website. In addition to that, it works alongside Flash, meaning you can create your own applications and controls.
Knowing how to create a website, and knowing how to create a usable website are two very different things. You need to pay close attention to the layout and ensure it makes sense. For instance, it is important to have a decent navigation plan which means having a navigation bar, or at least a way to move around the site.
As you are designing the web page in question, and creating the navigation functions, you will want to test each link link thoroughly, making sure they work on each and every page. If you have any broken links, customers will lose faith in your product, and rather easily. If you are ready to build a website, then now there would be a great time to start searching for the appropriate software, and of course, start making plans.
If you plan to use any special elements, flash for example, you will want to make sure you find a host that supports the use of these elements. If you choose the wrong web host, you may end up with a completely blank website once it is published. Over time, you will likely need to make changes to your website, so make sure you keep up with the latest changes to web development technology, and of course, learn how to implement them properly. It's time for you to get to work on your brand new webpage!
